A decade of hope: How the Guilford County Family Justice Center is celebrating 10 years of getting survivors justice
A Safe Haven for Survivors: How the Guilford County Family Justice is celebrating 10 years of service to the community.
GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. —
The Guilford County Family Justice Center is turning 10 years old.
This event celebrates a decade of community transformation and collaboration between law enforcement, grassroots organizations and abuse survivors.
The community celebrated the anniversary Friday morning with a breakfast.
It also included a special tribute to Sergeant Philip Dale Nix, a Greensboro Police officer killed in the line of duty in 2023.
“Sergeant Nix was the definition of what it means to collaborate with a family justice center. He was nationally known for his leadership, collaborative spirit, and helped support thousands of victims," organizers said.
The inaugural award was presented to Paige Gilliard with the Children's Law Center of Central North Carolina.
Since 2015, organizers say the center has become a one stop safe haven for abuse survivors of all ages, from children to our elders.
Organizers have featured programs like Camp Hope for children facing abuse, and they have created a high-risk protocol to hold abusers in the worst cases accountable. This protocol is expanding to other counties across the state.
