Prosecutors said Promise Williams pleaded guilty to felony strangulation as well as petit larceny for thefts at multiple ABC stores in Norfolk.
NORFOLK, Va. — A man has been sentenced to over four years in prison for trying to strangle a Norfolk police officer and for stealing from multiple Virginia ABC liquor stores.
Back in March, police say 42-year-old Promise Williams stole multiple bottles of liquor from the ABC on Colley Avenue. A police officer who was trying to stop Williams chased him down. There was an altercation and police say Williams put his hands around the officer’s neck.
The officer eventually overpowered Williams and held him at Taser-point until backup arrived. Medics were also called to treat the officer’s neck injuries caused by Williams.
Prosecutors said Williams pleaded guilty to felony strangulation as well as petit larceny for thefts at multiple ABC stores in Norfolk. He was also found guilty of violating his probation.
The Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said Williams was sentenced on Friday to a total of four years and seven months in prison.
