A 25-year-old Bridgeport man has been charged with felony strangulation.
State Police Cpl. B.W. Claypool has accused Jeffrey John Farmer Jr. of strangling his ex-girlfriend sometime between Oct. 1 and Oct. 24.
About a month before she came forward to law enforcement, an angry Farmer “choked me out,” the victim told Claypool.
“The victim stated she could not remember if she lost consciousness,” Claypool alleged.
The ex-girlfriend also alleged Farmer had “held her in a closet against her will during other incidents,” according to Claypool.
The ex-girlfriend said that on another occasion, Farmer “approached her from behind and held a kitchen knife to her throat,” Claypool alleged.
The ex-girlfriend underwent a forensic exam Nov. 8 at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Medical Center, according to Claypool.
“The exam revealed the victim presents neurological deficits believed to be the result of strangulation. The victim reported numbness and tingling in her bilateral extremities, difficulty standing, and difficulty with ambulation. She further reported posterior neck pain and difficulty swallowing. The victim advised … she experiences memory issues and headaches after the strangulation incident and is extremely fearful of the defendant and his family,” Claypool alleged.
Harrison Chief Magistrate Frank DeMarco set bond at $25,000 cash, surety or 10/90.
Farmer also has a detainer in a 2019 Taylor County case, according to jail records.
In that case, Farmer entered a plea to two counts of third-degree sexual assault, went to the Anthony Correctional Center, and was probated Nov. 10, 2021, according to Taylor Prosecutor John Bord.
